Description
UPDATED 10/22/06: Do you have the love and patience this sweet girl needs? Jennifer was rescued from a massive rescue attempt involving over 30 cats. She spent her time (approximately 5 years) in this home hiding under the bed, shying away from the woman who lived there. Jennifer was taken in by one of our volunteers (who actually trapped her in her home and brought her out to safety). Although she had an upper respiratory infection as well as an abscess on the left corner of her mouth, she has fully recovered--what a little basic medicine and TLC can do! Jennifer was very matted, but willingly let her foster mom cut and brush out the mats, purring like crazy the whole time. How painful they must have been. Jennifer is still a little apprehensive, but she is so loving and she responds nearly immediately to any positive influence of touch, or the company of another gentle cat or dog. She cowers at first from human hands if near her face, which make us wonder if she wasn't abused before she was rescued from behind the Shop Rite over 5 years ago. When she was rescued, she had a broken back leg (unknown cause) that healed on it's own--it didn't heal quite straight, but the only way to fix that was to re-break her leg, and since she is able to walk on it just fine, it was let be. Jennifer allows her foster mom to pet her all over and purrs like crazy. This sweet girl has probably never really had proper hands-on attention, be we are so glad that she is eager to have it!! But she doesn't feel comfortable being held. Jennifer is a sweet, calm kitty who doesn't ask for much. We think she is about 6 years old. She is very neat, quiet and asks for nothing other than a warm bed and some clean water. She is eating dry Science Diet food and has been turning her nose up at any canned food. She is spayed, FELV/FIV negative, and will be up to date on her shots before being adopted. She came from a home with many cats and would likely do fine with another cat, but this girl deserves a second chance at life and would be SOOOOO happy to be a spoiled only cat who is pampered like she deserves. Can you help her? We are not showing Jennifer at the Petco just yet, as she is still adapting to her foster home, but she is available for adoptions and if you are interested in meeting her, her foster mother would be more than happy to accommodate that a meeting time and place. ORIGINAL POSTING:9/28/06: An urgent situation has come up involving approximately 30 cats in a Middlesex county residence. The woman who owns them has suffered an extreme mental breakdown and we are told that a distant family member has already stepped in and has put the woman in the hospital. We have stepped in and have been in the home feeding the cats, checking on their health, and taking pictures so that we can get them adopted immediately. At the time of this posting, Animal Control has given us through the end of next week (Friday, October 6th) to get the cats into homes or else they will take them ALL to be euthanized. This situation is extreme. These animals are rescues, who are well-adjusted, loving and friendly pets who are used to being loved and cared for. They are used to sleeping in their owners bed, and used to giving and receiving affections. The womans compromised state has just come to our attention and we are willing to help; however this news comes at the height of kitten season where everyone who is capable of fostering is over extended without being allotted more time. We have done our best to take photos of these scared, and confused kitties who dont know where their momma is, and cant understand why all these strange people keep coming in and out of their home. We are hoping that you can see through the print on this page to the eyes and the faces that need you to reach out to them. Jennifer has an abscess on her lip, but she was too frightened to let us get closer to take a better look. Many of these cats are suffering from respiratory infections due to neglect, but this can easily be treated with antibiotics. They have all been spayed and neutered. Time is truly of the essence; picture your own animals if something like this happened to you. If you are interested in this kitty or any of the Middlesex county URGENT rescue kitties, please contact Kathleen at kfram@earthlink.net during the day or call 908-233-1502 after 5 pm.
