Hi, my name is Lana. My story has a sad beginning, but its getting happier and happier every day. I came to Feline Friends about two years ago. I was so fearful that the doctors had a hard time examining me, let alone handling me. I never let the staff get too close to me, let alone pet me. Even though the staff tried to coax me out for playtime, day after day I just sat on a little perch in the corner of my cage. One day a staff member got a little too close for comfort while cleaning my cage. I got scared and hissed at her. Thats when she noticed how bad my breath was. She told a doctor, who then sedated me to do a thorough oral exam. As it turned out, I had stomatitis. Over 8 months all of my teeth had to be removed, and my gums were lasered. You see, the staff didnt know it, but my mouth was so painful for so long that I was too uncomfortable to ever relax. My mouth has healed beautifully and Im pain free! I eat canned food very well and I can eat dry too (as long as the kibble is small). One of the staff members was actually brought to tears a few months ago when she saw me play with a toy for the first time ever. Im still too nervous to let anyone pet me, but Im getting closer and closer. They keep my cage door open during playtime and I occasionally wander out. I LOVE most male cats. Even though I haven't warmed up to people, I often affectionately rub up against the boys, letting out a sweet little meow. I love to play with toy mice, and now I can even be seen affectionately rubbing my face against the cage door.something you never would have seen me do a year ago. The staff has high hopes for me, they know its just a matter of time before the right loving & patient person come along :) My ideal home? I dream of a quiet home with lots of windows. I dont mind other cats, as long as theyre nice to me. I probably wouldnt do well with children because Im so timid. Dogs might be OK, as long as they dont chase me around the house!
